It was during September 1969 when a group of six young men gathered together to form the “Megistos” Club. (Megistos -“the greatest” in Greek). The club was sponsored by the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. Beta Theta chapter of Los Angeles, CA with Julia Carpenter as an advisor.
The purpose of the Megistos Club was to: lift the educational, moral and social standards of youth, to aid in the development of well rounded individuals, to create a desire in boys to want to improve their academics, to provide an opportunity for boys to broaden their scope of activities, and to emphasize the cultural and social graces of manhood. During the tenure of Past Supreme Basileus Ruby Couche, all chapters of the sorority were requested to organize a boy’s group. At the 1983 Conclave the Megistos officially had their name changed to “KUDOS”- meaning a claim to a prestige renown.
The Alpha Chapter Kudos was re-established in the Spring of 1997 by Sorors Anona Huntley, Marilynn Jones, and Verna Sims. There were twelve young men who attended the April 13th meeting. Seven of them decided to make the commitment and became Kudos. Alpha Kudos continue to thrive today and are involved in numerous activities to promote academic excellence and to enhance cultural and social enrichment.
